The largest recreational open space in Eastern Massachusetts, the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park is comprised of 34 islands and mainland parks that deliver access to historic sites and provide opportunities to hike and camp. Transportation to the islands is by ferry and, depending on the location, your own boat. Please refer to their website for the most up-to-date information about what is open and how to get there.

Access the islands through 2-for-1 (or 4 for 2) discounted ferry fees with the use of our special Newbury Town Library promo code. Weekday passes are available online beginning in June until the end of the public ferry season in the fall. Exclusions include: Free Ferry Days, July 4th, Labor Day and Columbus Day. After Labor Day, passes are valid 7 days a week until the end of the season. All tickets must be purchased online. Complete this library form to get your coupon code.

Please note: Users of the Newbury Town Library's DCR MassParks Passes must be Newbury/Byfield residents per the DCR. 

DCR MassParks Pass (Department of Conservation and Recreation) – Entitles the bearer to FREE parking for one vehicle (excluding vans or buses) at Massachusetts Parks. Click here to see lists of Massachusetts Parks by area.

Because we're closed on Sundays and Mondays, as well as Saturdays in Summer, booking is limited to the days we're open for you to pick up your pass. However, you are able to use these passes on any days of the week.  Please read the following...

WEEKEND PASS USAGE:

  • Reserve your pass for the Friday of your weekend Mass Parks visit.
  • Pick up your pass on the Friday of your weekend Mass Parks visit.
  • You will have use of the pass through Monday. The pass is due back by 9am on Tuesday after the weekend.

  • WEEKDAY PASS USAGE:

  • Passes may be reserved up to 30 days in advance. 
  • Weekday passes can be picked up at the Newbury Town Library Circulation Desk on the day of use, or the 1st open day before use. 

  • RETURNS: Passes must be returned by 9:00 am on the following day, and can be dropped  in the book drop outside if the library is closed.
