Lighthouses of New England and the People Who Kept Them

Wednesday, May 115:30—6:45 PMThe Lois M. Anderson Community RoomThe Newbury Town Library0 Lunt St. , Byfield, MA, 01922

In Person!

Everyone knows that there's "something about lighthouses" that gives them broad appeal, but their vital role in our history and culture is little appreciated. Our early nation was built on maritime economy, and lighthouses were part of the system that made that possible. Due to automation, traditional lighthouse keeping is a way of life that has faded into the past. Jeremy D'Entremont tells the history of New England's historic and picturesque lighthouses primarily focusing on the colorful and dramatic stories of lighthouse keepers and their families.

BIO: Jeremy D'Entremont has been called the leading expert on New England's historic lighthouses. He is the author or co-author of more than 20 books, including The Lighthouses of Maine, The Lighthouses of Massachusetts, The Lighthouses of Rhode Island, The Lighthouses of Connecticut, Great Shipwrecks of the Maine Coast, The Lighthouse Handbook: New England, All About Nubble Light, and Ocean-Born Mary: The Truth Behind a New Hampshire Legend.

Jeremy is the president and historian for the American Lighthouse Foundation, founder of Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses, and the historian for the U.S. Lighthouse Society. He has appeared on the History Channel, the Travel Channel, Public Television, and National Public Radio speaking about lighthouses and other subjects. He also produces and hosts a weekly podcast called Light Hearted for the U.S. Lighthouse Society.
