Fran Cooks with Kids

Tuesday, June 293:30—4:00 PMVirtualThe Newbury Town Library0 Lunt St. , Byfield, MA, 01922

This is a two week course. It is sure to be fun and places an emphasis on healthy eating, incorporating vegetables, fruits, whole grains and reduced added sweeteners.

Cooking is an enjoyable, multisensory, satisfying activity when you know some basic kitchen skills. Encouraging an interest in learning about foods, basic nutritional concepts, kitchen safety and preparation techniques can contribute to lifelong healthy food choices and habits, that in turn can assist our youth with maintaining a desirable body weight. Self-confidence in a child can be  fostered from repeated trials of success building activities.

Fran Kaplan has taught Foods and Nutrition classes to all ages in the public schools, as well as working in community-based programs.

These classes will be offered on a Zoom basis. Each one within a series will be a self-contained cooking activity in which the child will prepare a recipe along with Fran. Some limited steps that may require adult assistance are clearly indicated on the recipes that will be provided in advance.

All recipes presented are nut free. Ingredients and kitchen equipment are commonly available. Substitutions are frequently suggested when applicable to allow for flexibility.

Recipes will be sent out one week prior to the first class. The Zoom link will be sent out each week prior to the class.

Registration for this event has now closed.
