You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old – George Burns, American comedian, actor and musician

Youth is a gift of nature, but age is a work of art – Stanislaw Jerzy Lec, writer

Yoga is NOT twisting your body into a pretzel shape, or wearing a white sheath sitting cross-legged on a mountain top. Yoga is accessible to everyone, especially as we age. It is a holistic practice combining physical poses (asana) with mindfulness, breathing techniques, and meditation. The combination of these practices promotes functional mobility and helps rebalance the nervous system. Research studies have found a yoga practice to positively correlate with both physical and mental wellness. It is known that yoga can improve strength, flexibility, and endurance, but studies have also found that regular practice may help:

· Lower the risk of cardiovascular disease

· Recovery from strokes and surgery

· Prevent falls

· Manage arthritis, pain and inflammation

· Manage diabetes

· Manage digestive issues like IBS

· Improve sleep quality

· Facilitate the grieving process

· Manage depression and anxiety

YOGA IS FOR ANY BODY

Yoga is for the body you have today, not the one you had yesterday or the one you’re going to have tomorrow. This is the only one you’ve got so begin your practice with what you have.

In this introductory class, we will build a gentle practice, guided by the breath, that will release, strengthen and stretch the body. Using both dynamic and static movement, breathing techniques and poses that will help release muscle tension, strengthen postural muscles, and support activities of daily life. Explore alignment supported by a chair both seated and standing and experience the balance between effort and ease and how this may impact the state of balance in broader areas of our lives. This class is welcoming and accessible to all.
